Akyra Joseph Wins Bronze Medal at AAU Junior Olympics in Texas

Team Virgin Islands opened up competition today in the 2021 AAU Junior Olympics in Humble, Texas, with Akyra Joseph competing in the Age 14 Girls Pentathlon. According to the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) Joseph finished 4th with a personal record for her multi-event score of 2490 earning her a Bronze Medal and All-American honors.

In the sweltering Texas heat, Akyra was able to set personal records in the 100m hurdles 17.13, long jump 4.60m and shot put 8.96m; she came close to her personal records in the high jump 1.45m and the 800m 2:53.71.

All Track and Field athletes attending the AAU Junior Olympics had to compete in their respective regions to claim one of the top six spots to qualify for the Games in Humble, Texas.
