Hugh Petersen Dies at 75

The memorial service for Hugh Petersen will be held on December 19, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Frederiksted, St. Croix with internment to follow at the Frederiksted Cemetery.

Hugh Petersen affectionately known as “Fumatransitioned his earthly home on October 21,2022 in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on the island of St. Croix, he was the second son of the late Golda McBean- Morris and Ivan PetersenStepfather Samuel Morris. Fuma was a well-known musician who traveled extensively throughout the world with many artists like himself. Fuma was known as one of the best drummers of his time. His musical ability and love for music will be missed throughout the St. Croix community, as well as in the Louisville, Kentucky community, where he was always featured as an outstanding musician with his Quintet group during the Jazz World Festival in Kentucky. Fuma is survived by: Son; Duane Petersen and four grandchildren, Wife; Josephine Higgins, Brother; Milton Petersen, Sisters; Sonja Rivera-Rembert, Patricia Rivera, Delores Rivera- Lang, Emma Morris-Armstrong, Lorraine Morris- Davila Magnolia Morris- OReilly, Lavern Morris- James, and Yvette Morris- Gordon. Stepchildren Jamar Higgins, Curtis Higgins jr. (Alisa), and Crystal Higgins and four step-great grandchildren. Mother-in-law Addie Hayden, Sister-in-law; Emma Jean Petersen and Ernestine Hayden. Brother-in-law; Herbert Rembert, Ruben Lang, Wilburn O’Reilly, Ulysses Davila, Lester Ferdinand, Greenville James, Hector Gordon Sr. Eric Bachelor, Stanley Williams, and Alfred Hayden Jr. Nieces; Venique Petersen-Jones, Nichelle Armstrong, Kafi Armstrong, Tiffany Lang, RaShawna Davila, Muslimah Davila, Makima O’Reilly, Makyra O’Rielly, Makila O’Reilly, Makia O’Reilly, Shannon Payne, Reasha Bruce, Cleorinda Gordon- Clarke, Jenella Gordon, and Shayna Gordon- Felix. Nephews; Rahman Davila, Odingo Davila, Mahal O’Reilly, Hector Gordon Jr. (papa), Akeem Ferdinand and Shamoy James. Numerous great nieces and nephews. Other family members to include the McBean Family, Sarauw family, Greenridge family, Hodge family, Petersen family, Brady family, Simmonds family and Santos family and many friends too numerous to mention.
