Woman Arrested After Disturbance Involving Unlicensed Firearm

A St. Croix woman was arrested in connection with a disturbance involving an unlicensed firearm in Smithfield, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

Police said the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report at about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2025, of a disturbance in the vicinity of Serita’s Place.

According to police, responding officers spoke with individuals at the scene who reported that a firearm was brandished during the disturbance. Investigators later determined that Shirlyn Burks brought an unlicensed firearm into the territory and that the firearm was used during the incident.

An arrest warrant for Burks was issued by the Superior Court on Jan. 26, police said.

Burks was arrested and booked on Wednesday. She was unable to post bail set at $50,000 and was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing, according to police.
