The Department of Public Works advises the public of road repairs throughout downtown Frederiksted on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

This week, DPW contractor – Marco St. Croix, Inc. – mobilized operations in downtown Frederiksted, marking the start of a comprehensive roadway improvement project in the area. The project, funded through the 2015 GARVEE Issuance, includes the milling, paving, and striping of Strand Street, King Street, Queen Street, and Fisher Street. Additional improvements will include the cleaning and clearing of drainage structures, trench drain repairs, manhole and valve adjustments, utility cover replacements, and the installation of new roadway signage. As part of the project, the Pond Bridge on King Street will be replaced with a new steel bridge designed to accommodate two vehicular travel lanes and an eight-foot-wide pedestrian sidewalk.
Motorists should anticipate temporary lane restrictions, intermittent road closures, and traffic delays throughout the duration of the project. The public is encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible and to exercise caution when traveling through active work zones.
The Department of Public Works appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as efforts continue to improve roadway conditions throughout the territory.
