St. Croix Man Extradited to Face Attempted Murder, Firearm Charges

Renaldo Philbert Jr. was extradited to the Virgin Islands Saturday where he faces multiple charges connected to an incident in 2019, the V.I. Police Department reported.

On June 6, 2019, the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of shots being fired in the vicinity of the David Hamilton Jackson Terrace Housing Community. Four victims sustained gunshot wounds and were all transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment of various degrees, with the most serious of the injured becoming a paraplegic, the police report stated.

An investigation by a detective from the Criminal Investigation Bureau revealed that Philbert was involved in the incident, and forensic analysis linked him to evidence at the crime scene. A Superior Court judge issued an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Philbert, who was on conditional release for an earlier arrest, according to the report.

He was however granted permission to travel to Florida. While in Florida, he was involved in a kidnap robbery and was apprehended by authorities in Orange County, Fla. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced. After completing his sentence, he was released to the Virgin Islands Police Department, stated the report.

He was placed under arrest for attempted murder, assault first, mayhem, and firearm charges. Philbert could not post bail of $100,000 and was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing.
