The Friends of the St. Thomas Public Library are offering used adult books to all comers Saturday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fortress Storage. Individuals, group leaders and school librarians are all welcome.
Community members are reminded to donate books no longer needed into the deposit boxes in all island post offices.

BOOKS ARE FREE ON INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND

June 30, 2003 — The Friends of the St. Thomas Public Library are offering used adult books to all comers Saturday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fortress Storage. (Follow the signs around back.) Individuals, group leaders and school librarians are all welcome.
"Redistribution of the literary assets of the island," said a release, has netted more than 7,000 books in the past year. Shelves of free books are available throughout the community at Nisky Mail Services, Mahogany Run Condo office, Bonnie's, Bottoms Up, and Frenchtown Deli.
Books have been donated to the Housing Community Centers, The Boys and Girls Club, Junior Firefighters, New Horizons Library, senior centers and homes, Bordeaux Farmers, The Rehabilitation Center, several church groups and the book cart at Schneider Hospital.
Community members are reminded to donate books no longer needed into the deposit boxes in all island post offices.

June 30, 2003 – The Committee on Public Safety, Judiciary, Homeland Security and Justice, chaired by Sen. Lorraine L. Berry, was adjourned Monday when none of the officials invited to testify showed up, according to a public information officer at the Legislature.
Berry had called the meeting to consider allotting $4,085 in U.S. Homeland Security funding to the Law Enforcement Planning Commission and to discuss amending the V.I. Code to the consider contributory negligence when assessing damages.
Invited to testify were: Maj. Gen. Cleave McBean, adjutant general/director. V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency; Eddy Charles, drug policy adviser to the governor; Attorney General Iver Stridiron; and Samuel Grey, V.I. Bar Association president.
