Cruz Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant Suffers Problem

The V.I. Waste Management Authority’s Cruz Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant is currently experiencing mechanical problems due to a breech in the main aeration line, the authority announced in a press release Tuesday.

The line breech is causing an inadequate flow of air to the process plant, which is generating the odor, the statement said. The VIWMA is working to repair the line so the plant can be restored to full operation, a job expected to be completed by Wednesday.

In the interim, odor control measures will be taken to reduce the impact to the community.

Residents with impacted immune systems or respiratory conditions are asked to avoid the area until the repairs have been made.

The VIWMA apologized in its statement for any inconvenience that this may cause and said they are “working diligently to correct the problem.”
