The Humane Society of St.Thomas is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to taking in all unwanted pets, reducing pet over population through the spay/neuter programs, finding new homes for as many animals as possible, and educating the community on the value of respecting and caring for all life.
The Humane Society is currently located in Nadir, next to the 'bridge to nowhere' while it awaits completion of its new animal care campus to be located on the Weymouth Rhymer Highway across from Cost-U-Less.
The capital campaign to raise $2,000,000 for this most important project is headed by Randy Knight and Humane Society Board of Directors President Joe Aubain, along with all its dedicated Board of Directors. This new Animal Care campus will allow the Humane Society to better serve the community. The added space and services will be tailored for the care of the animals and the education of our children in creating a safer more humane environment for our future.

Services we presently provide:
Overpopulation Control: Our adoption fee of only $40 for cats and $45 for dogs (for the license fee) includes the spaying/neutering of every animal that leaves our shelter. There is never a charge for bringing an animal to the shelter.
There is also a program in place to help spay or neuter animals which are not adopted from the shelter. If you already have pets at home who are not spayed or neutered and/or are feeding stray colonies and cannot afford the cost of spaying ask us about the SNAP program: we are here to help.
Within the limitation of our budget, we address as many stray, injured and cruelty calls as we can. We are working closely with the K-9 department of the police department to assist with cruelty investigations. Animal abuse or neglect is a crime; call us whenever you suspect that an animal is in danger. Your call can remain anonymous and it can save a life!
The Society also rents humane traps so that the public can address stray problems. Help us help them! Overpopulation is a real tragedy and we have to all work together to reduce the numbers of unwanted less fortunate animals on the streets or in our care.
Field Trips: Teachers are invited to contact the Humane Society for information on our educational field trips or for information in obtaining the Kind news magazine; an important education tool for our children.
Membership: An individual membership in the Society is $30. Become a member today and become an active supporter of our programs!
Special Programs: You may not have room in your home but still have room in your heart to sponsor a pet for our "Support a Kennel Program:"
Your name is acknowledged on a yearly plaque in the shelter lobby. The donations for this program are $175 for a cat kennel and/or $365 for a dog kennel.
For $50 a month the "Adopt a Friend Program " gives our residents a better chance: A photo published in the Daily News or the Island Trader increases the chance for an adoption by 70% !!!
Any and all donations are gratefully accepted towards our general operation or for these special funding programs.
Flea Market: Volunteers are always needed for this most important fundraiser for our shelter. You can shop for some of the best deals on the island from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, or call for other shopping times during the week and don't forget us when you move or do that spring cleaning! All donations are tax deductible.
We are looking for more volunteers for our "Animal Outreach Program."
We started this pilot program at Hemingway's Bookshop with tremendous success: in one year 60 more shelter animals were adopted and socialized while educating the public as well! Businesses who can participate please contact us for more information.
