UVI Spring Recess Continues Through March 10
The University of the Virgin Islands is observing Spring Recess through Friday, March 10. While classes are in recess, UVI administrative offices are observing their normal schedules. Classes will resume on Monday, March 13.
Paiewonsky Library Closed to Public During Electrical Upgrade
Due to the continuation of work on electrical system enhancements at UVI's Paiewonsky Library on the St. Thomas campus, the library is closed to the public through March 10.
Leipzig String Quartet to Perform at the Reichhold on March 11
The Leipzig String Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts. Compositions by Mozart, Debussy and Mendelssohn will be featured. Tickets are available at the Reichhold Ticket Office and at Modern Music, Parrot Fish, Dockside Books Store, Interiors and Home again. The performance is presented by The Forum and sponsored by FirstBank Virgin Islands.
UVI Trustees to Hold Quarterly Meeting on March 11 on St. Croix
The University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees will hold its quarterly meeting on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 9 a.m. in the Research and Extension Center building on UVI's St. Croix campus. Among the items scheduled to be voted upon include the FY06 Compensation Adjustment Proposal, the proposed construction of a UVI Wellness Center adjacent to the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus, and the proposal for a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education for Secondary Teachers. Following the public meeting the Board will convene to consider several items in a closed Executive Session.
St. Croix Class of 2006 Meeting Scheduled for Sunday, March 12
The St. Croix campus graduating class of 2006 will hold a meeting from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 12. The session will take place in the Evans Center Theater (EC room 401) Attendance is mandatory. UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster will meet with the students.
UVI's Charter Week Celebrations to Begin Monday, March 13
The University of the Virgin Islands celebrates its 44th annual Charter Day — March 16, 2006 — with a week of events and activities beginning Monday, March 13. Included are lectures, presentations, archery and kickball competitions, the annual Queen Mary Walk/Run, a talent show and a research symposium. The official Charter Day Ceremony begins at 9 a.m. on March 16 in Chase Auditorium (B 110) on the St. Thomas campus, with a videoconferenced link to the Theater (EC 401) on the St. Croix campus. A detailed list of Charter Week events and activities is featured on the UVI website.
St. Croix Class of 2006 Seeking Participants for Male/Female Auction
The St. Croix campus graduating class 2006 will conduct a Male/Female Auction fundraiser on Friday, March 24, in the Cafetorium. Individuals wishing to participate should contact Florence Clercent at 692-4022.
Free Course on Clothing Construction to be Offered on St. Croix Campus
A free Beginner's Clothing Construction Class will be offered on UVI's St. Croix campus from March 20 through May 10. The course, under the auspices of the Family and Consumer Sciences Program of UVI's Cooperative Extension Service, will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. It will be taught in Building B in the west campus area. Space is limited. To register, or to obtain more information, call Rosalind Browne at 778-1620 Ext. 3084 or 692-4098.
Talent Show Scheduled on UVI's St. Croix Campus for March 31
A Tom Joyner School of the Month fundraising talent show will be held at 7 p.m. for Friday, March 31, in the UVI Cafetorium on UVI's St. Croix campus. The show is open to the VI community. Admission is $3. Performers for the show are being sought. To be eligible, individuals must be a UVI student or employee and have a talent. The registration deadline is Tuesday, March 21. Registration costs $1 for individuals and $2 for groups. Tryouts will be held on March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium. All proceeds will go to help the Tom Joyner School of the month campaign initiatives.
