Aug. 16, 2006 – The Virgin Islands National Guard is hosting engineers from the Tennessee National Guard for 15 days in the territory as they lend a hand to renovate the Sergeant First Class Leonard B. Francis Armory in Estate Nazareth on St. Thomas.
Thirty members of the 212th Engineer Company are taking part in the exchange of services to fulfill their annual training requirement. Each year all National Guardsmen are required to perform monthly weekend drills and fifteen days of annual training, according to a press release from Joint Force Headquarters, V.I. National Guard.
More than 200 hundred soldiers of the 786th Quartermaster Battalion call the armory their home away from home. The V.I. National Guard's 631st Engineer Detachment conducted repairs to ten offices in the east wing June 3-18, 2006. Now the staff has returned operations to the renovated section of the facility. The company will tackle 15 offices on the west wing of the building. They will replace drywall, and perform carpentry and electrical work.
