Brief: First Lady to Host Easter Fun for Kids

March 8, 2008 — First lady Cecile deJongh will host the annual Children’s Easter celebrations on all three islands March 15 and 22.
"Not only will our children get to enjoy traditional Easter festivities with the customary Easter basket and Easter eggs, but they will also have the opportunity to celebrate our culture in a theatrical setting," said deJongh. "Instead of having an Easter egg hunt, the children will be treated to culturally relevant Easter entertainment."
The Easter events are open to all children age 10 and under and feature an original skit written by Glenn "Kwabena" Davis and Edgar Lake, an original song written by Ulric Ferrari, book readings by the first lady along with Cheryl Francis, and of course, the Easter bunny, who will be on hand to deliver Easter baskets to all the children. Disc jockeys will also be on hand to provide music for the children’s listening pleasure.
The St. Thomas event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Charlotte Amalie High School Auditorium. St. Croix’s event will also occur on Saturday, March 15, 2008, this time at the Island Center from at 3 to 4 p.m. The St. John event is set for 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Frank Powell Band Stand in Cruz Bay.
