Public Notice: Derelict Vessel in Christiansted Harbor

June 13, 2008 – A 40-foot Blue Trimaran has been considered derelict and abandoned in the mooring site at the Christiansted Harbor. Investigations reveal that the derelict vessel poses a potential danger to the environment and to the navigation of other vessels. The Department is requiring removal of this derelict vessel by its owner within thirty days of this notice, according to a press release from the Department of Planning and Natural Resources.
Failure to commence immediate removal of the vessel may result in removal and disposal by the DPNR at the owner's expense or a court judgment against the owner. Title 12 of the Virgin Island's Code, Section 716 and 913, and title 19, Section 1562 provide for civil and criminal penalties for violation of the statutes listed in this notice.
Any questions may be directed to Officer Howard A. Forbes Sr. on St. Croix at 773-5774.
