Source reader Alex Randall asked the V.I. Answer Desk what the V.I. Port Authority’s plans are for the pile of ground-up asphalt at the end of the Cyril E. King Airport runway.
To find out, the Source contacted VIPA Engineering Director Dale Gregory, who explained that the material, called “millings”—ground-up used asphalt cleared before repaving—will be recycled for use in other projects.
"The pile won’t sit at the end of the runway for long," Gregory said. "It is just temporarily stored there and will be moved shortly."
Acording to Gregory, the millings will be used as base on roadways and to fill pot holes.
