Department of Education Releases 2010-2011 Public School Calendar

The 2010-2011 Public School Calendar is now available for parents, educators and interested persons. The annual school calendar and accompanying narrative contains information regarding important public school student and personnel reporting and departure dates, marking period schedules, legal holidays and observances for the upcoming school year, according to a press release from Education Commissioner, Dr. La Verne Terry. The 2010-2011 school year begins with the return of students on Monday, Aug. 30.

“The V.I. Department of Education’s public school calendar has been developed to ensure that Virgin Islands students receive a quality education designed to promote their social, emotional, and academic achievement,” said Dr. Terry. “This territory-wide calendar is one on which the days of operation are universal to all public school buildings and school-based programs within the territory of the Virgin Islands, inclusive of the beginning and ending dates of the school year and all vacation days. However, the individual public school buildings and school-based program hours of operation may vary based on the universal days for activities such as staff development and parent-teacher conferences.”
Copies of the school calendar are now available on the V.I. Department of Education Web site: www.doe.vi for easy access and download.
