Applications for 7th Graders Available for Summer Physicians Science Training Program

Seventh grade students attending territorial public, private or parochial schools and their parents are advised that applications are now available online at www.distancelearningcenter.org for the 2011 Summer Physicians Scientist Training Program (PSTP). Students must possess an A average, score in the 90 percentile or above on standard test and have a strong desire for a career in the biomedical research field. The 2011 Summer Program will be conducted at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

PTSP targets racial groups which have been historically underrepresented in the medical profession for their population size and who suffer from the health disparities gap. The program was designed to produce candidates for M.D. programs and M.D. /Ph.D. dual degree programs. This comprehensive training initiative spans the junior high, senior high and college summers, and utilizes an integrated developmental regimen that prepares the students to successfully pursue a research career in medicine.
For more information about the program and to download an application, interested students may log on to www.distancelearningcenter.org or contact Charlene Matthew at 692-0214, or via e-mail at ctamatthew@netscape.net.
