Youth Shot on St. Croix

A 17-year-old youth was shot about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Candido Guadalupe housing community on St. Croix. An investigation is under way.

The youth told police that he was at the bus shanty when he saw several armed men come out of the bushes. The suspect started firing and the youth ran.

He was shot at least once in his upper chest underneath his arm.

When the police arrived on the scene, they saw spent shell casings in the area. The youth told police that he did not know the gunmen and he did not know why anyone would shoot at him.

The youth was taken to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.

This case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.
