UVICELL Offers Human Resources Certification Courses

The “Introductory Course — Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) Certification Prep” is the first HR certification designed for professionals who are just beginning their HR career journey. It provides a knowledge of foundational human resources, is a perfect certification to help fast-track career growth, and provides people with the confidence to launch into the human resources profession.

To be eligible for the aPHR, a person must have a high school diploma or global equivalent. No HR experience is required because this is a knowledge-based credential.

The course will be held June 22 – July 29 from 6-9 p.m., Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays. The class will take place at UVICELL Center, St. Thomas. The fee is $1,295. The registration deadline is Thursday, June 8 (A non-refundable deposit of $500 must be submitted).

This HR Certification Course will prepare the professional to sit for either the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exam.

The PHR demonstrates a mastery of the technical and operational aspects of HR management, including U.S. laws and regulations. The PHR is for the professional who has experience with program implementation, has a tactical/logistical orientation, is accountable to another HR professional within the organization, and has responsibilities that focus on the HR department rather than the whole organization.

To be eligible for the PHR a person must meet one of the following conditions for education and experience:

Have at least one year of experience in a professional-level HR position + a master’s degree or higher,

Have at least two years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a bachelor’s degree, or

Have at least four years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a high school diploma.

The Senior PHR demonstrates a mastery of the strategic and policy-making aspects of HR management as practiced in the U.S. The credential is designed for big-picture thinkers responsible for planning rather than implementing HR policy. Organizations seek out SPHR professionals for their proven accountability for HR department goals, for breadth and depth of knowledge in all HR disciplines, and for understanding business issues beyond the HR function.

To be eligible for the SPHR a person must meet one of the following conditions for education and experience:

Have at least four years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a master’s degree or higher,

Have at least five years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a bachelor’s degree, or

Have at least seven years of experience in a professional-level HR position + a high school diploma.

Course Information

The senior professional in human resources course will be held Sept. 11 to Nov. 6 from 6-9 p.m., Mondays, at UVICELL, St. Thomas. The fee is $1,595. The registration deadline is Aug. 15 (A non-refundable deposit of $500 must be submitted)
