Traffic Stop Results in Arrest of STX Man on Firearm Charge

A routine traffic initiative Tuesday on St. Croix resulted in the arrest of a man who has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, the V.I. Police reported.

According to police, at about 5:07 p.m Tuesday, officers from the VIPD’s Special Operations Bureau were conducting a traffic initiative on Queen Mary Highway in the vicinity of the Sunny Isle Shopping Center when they stopped a vehicle with no registration sticker.

The driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as 24-year-old Ukimby Tequan Trey Greaux, could not provide the officers with proof of registration. They asked if he had anything illegal in his vehicle and he said “No,” but admitted that he had smoked a joint and there might be remnants of it in the vehicle.

Police then searched the vehicle and found a loaded revolver and six extra rounds in the vehicle.

Further investigation showed that Greaux was not authorized to carry or possess a firearm in the territory of the Virgin Islands.

He was placed under arrest and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm. Bail was set at $25,000 and, unable to post bail, he was remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
