STT Man Injured in Friday Shooting

A St Thomas man was treated for injuries he received when he was shot in the back Friday evening, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim’s name was not released by the police in accordance with department policy.

According to the police, at about 10:12 p.m. on Friday the 911 dispatcher received a call from the emergency room at the Schneider Regional Medical Center reporting that a man had been shot. Arriving at the hospital, officers made contact with the victim, who was being treated for a gunshot wound between his shoulder blades adjacent to the top of his spine, police said.

The victim told police he had left his Bovoni apartment to dump the garbage. He had completed the task and was returning to his apartment when he heard rapid, random gun shots in the area and felt a burning sensation between his shoulder blades. He said he ran back to his residence for help and was immediately taken by private vehicle to the St. Thomas hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

Police urged anyone with information about the case is to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211, the 911 call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 11800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).
