Police on St. Thomas have arrested 38-year-old Kareem Joseph, an inmate of the Correctional Facility at the Alexander Farrelly Criminal Justice Center, and charged him in the assault of a corrections officer.

The assault occurred at about 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.

According to the V.I. Police Department report, Joseph defied a direct order to return to his cell and assaulted the corrections officer when the officer attempted to escort Joseph back to his cell. The corrections officer traveled to the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital Emergency Room to receive treatment for the injuries sustained during the assault.

Joseph was arrested by officers of the Virgin Islands Crime Initiative, charged with aggravated assault and battery upon an officer, and turned back over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
