Altercation, Shots Reported at STT School

Shots were reportedly fired Friday evening during an altercation between two women hired to do work at Antilles School, according to the V.I. Police Department.

In a news release issued Tuesday night, police reported that officers were dispatched to the school at about 7:19 p.m. in reference to an altercation. While police were en route, the call was updated to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of the school.

The preliminary report said two women who are providing contracted work for the school had a verbal altercation that became physical. One of the women then retrieved her legally licensed firearm, shot two rounds in the air and then pointed it at the other woman, police said.

In a Tuesday night statement from the school, Ananta Pancham, director of communications for Antilles, said the school is continuing to work with the police.

“The incident involved two contract employees, who were engaged in a dispute,” Pancham wrote. “Antilles has a zero tolerance policy regarding gun use on campus, and has cancelled the company’s contract. As this incident remains under investigation, we are unable to release any additional details at this time but are cooperating fully with the police.”

No arrests had been made as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, the VIPD said. Police urged anyone with information on the matter to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.

Editor’s note: This story was updated after it was originally posted to include the statement from the school. The day of the altercation was corrected as well. The Source regrets the error.
