STX Man Charged with Firing at Officer

The V.I. Police Department is asking for the community’s help in locating 18-year-old Wayne Burke, a St. Croix man suspected of first-degree attempted murder and other charges stemming from a January attempted robbery.

According to police, Burke was identified as the suspect who fired upon a police officer and escaped after attempting to rob the KFC restaurant in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on Jan. 7. Burke is a male standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Police lised the following charges for which Burke is sought: first-degree attempted murder first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

Police urged anyone who encounters Burke or knows his whereabouts to call 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
