Aubrey Meyers, 64, was sentenced Thursday to time served and one year of supervised probation on his conviction for possession of cocaine, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.
The sentence was handed down by District Court Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller.
Meyers pled guilty to the charge on Jan. 21 In his plea agreement, he admitted that, on or about Oct. 27, at the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, he possessed five small clear plastic bags containing a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine. Court records indicate that Meyers was a ticketed passenger onboard a Spirit Airlines flight destined for Orlando, Florida when a routine search of his luggage identified the five plastic bags containing approximately 136 grams of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine, Shappert said.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Sleeper.
