STX Home Burglarized, Set Afire, Police Say

A home in Estate Morningstar on St. Croix was broken into, robbed and set ablaze Friday evening while its occupants were not home, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, at 10:45 p.m. Oct. 23, the 911 emergency call center was notified of a burglary and arson in Estate Morningstar.

Investigation revealed the dwelling was broken into, ransacked, and set on fire. Firefighters from the Virgin Islands Fire Service traveled to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The occupants told police they had secured the home’s entrances before leaving during the afternoon. The evidence of an accelerant used during the incident led VIFS inspectors to classify the fire as an arson.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911, the Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).
