Ian Sylvester Garvey Jr. also known as “Moso,” died on June 13. He was 38 years old.
He is survived by his significant other, Ruby Heywood; step-grandfather, Bertram Hendrickson; aunt, Louise Nisbeth; grandmother, Claudette Richards; children: Kimani Wilfred Garvey, Jurnee Alaijah Margaret Garvey, Jahlissa Iana Helen Garvey and Ian Sylvester Garvey III (expected October 2021); stepchildren: Malachi Phillips Jr. and Omaya Applewhite; and uncles: Herman Thompson, Howard Thompson, Derek Bastian, Sean Wilson and Marc Wilson.
He is also survived by cousins: Earl “Jomo” Garvey Jr., Kernita David, Kevik David, Alphonso “Al” Garvey Jr., Alesha Garvey, Denik Elshabazz, Kareem Jamarl Davis-Garvey, Amalek Garvey, Enoch Garvey, Tonyesha Garvey, Aisha Nisbeth, Ima Nisbeth, Kamia Nesbeth, Tamasha Nisbeth, Abdul Gomez, Kareem Gomez, Candice Garvey, Akeem Thompson Sr., Akeela Thompson, Amahlee Thompson, Shakeel Thompson, Sheryl Bastian, Samarr Bastian, Shabazz Bastian, Shalaya Wilson and Ah’Jahnaii Wilson.
Other survivors include special friends: Agnes Benjamin-Issac, Kevin Andrews, Charles David Sr., Akilo Brooks, James Turnbull, Jahmal Chelcher, Mario “Pookie” Knight, Kareem Jarvis, Kirby John Baptiste, Jordan Rawlins, Shekaisha Wenner, Anthony Mason, Norman Mason, Rubio Heywood Jr., Rahema Heywood-Yahn, Wendy Alfred, Kamaal Lewis, Reggie Joseph, Orville Bradshaw, Alvin Bernard, Ronald James Jr., Kaheem “Lalo” Roberts, Ken Allen Mitchell, Leroy D. Edwards, Paula Powell and Winifred “Nellie” Williams; as well as other family and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Friday July 16, at Beulah AME Zion Church Bethlehem. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
