Congresswoman Plaskett Announces $8M Grant for Lutheran Social Services

Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands

Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands has been selected to receive an $8 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett announced in a statement issued by her office.

“I am very pleased to announce that HHS has awarded a grant for $8,028,629 to LSSVI for Head Start Disaster Assistance. These funds have been allocated to agencies like LSSVI to care well for our children. Head Start programs promote the school readiness of infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children from low-income families and provides our children with the educational foundation that is crucial for children ages five and under.

“For our children to succeed regardless of their socio-economic status, we must ensure that they and their families have access to resources that will enable them to do so. Disaster assistance funding for Head Start aids in ensuring that these programs in our territory will be able to continue operations despite natural disasters.”
