Virgin Islands Celebrates 33rd Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act

Americans With Disabilities Act National Network

The Virgin Islands Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Anniversary Working Group will be celebrating the landmark civil rights legislation, The Americans with Disabilities Act, in a series of special events and trainings, which will include an Employer Recruitment Roundtable and an online celebration on the July 26th anniversary with guest speakers. Trainings are open to the public and will be held in person on St. Croix and St. Thomas and virtually via Zoom from July 18 – July 28.

The ADA Anniversary Working Group was established in 2020 after the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and offers quarterly programming each year in partnership with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Miami Office.

The ADA Anniversary Working Group is comprised of the following organizations and agencies: the Disability Rights Center of the Virgin Islands (DRCVI), ADA Coordinator for the Office of the Governor of the Virgin Islands, the Virgin Islands Association for Independent Living (VIADL), the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority (EDA), Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD), the Virgin Islands Small Business Development Center (VI SBDC), Island Therapy Solutions, VI Division of Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services (VIDDRS) and the Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL).

Activities for the 33rd anniversary are posted on the Disability Rights Center of the Virgin Islands’ website at www.drcvi.org/resources/ada-33-vi. The public can keep up with the group by following all the member organizations on social media and can participate in the anniversary by using the hashtags #ThanksToTheADA, #ADA33, #ADANetwork, and #DisabilityPride on social media.
