A structural fire reported at Estate Enighed on St. John Saturday morning was outed in two hours by 12 firefighters and two off-duty responders and while no one was injured, V.I. Fire and Emergency Medical Services said in a release Saturday evening that they are still looking into the cause.
St. John’s Zulu Company was dispatched around 11:03 a.m. Saturday, after receiving a 911 alert. Two units responded to assess the situation, while additional crews from the Romeo Company were sent in for support. The 14 personnel battling the blaze had it under control in about an hour, then took an extra hour to extinguish the remaining hot spots.
“During this operation, firefighters received medical attention from the EMS Unit due to
smoke and heat exposure. Thankfully, the home was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and there were no reported injuries,” according to a VIFEMS release. “The Investigation Unit also began its procedures to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Two tankers and two pumper units fully extinguished the fire, preventing any spread to the surrounding community.”
St. John Deputy VIFEMS Chief of Operations praised the work of the team, saying they demonstrated “exceptional commitment and skill in managing the situation.”
