Rashawn K’lani Raphael Carty, better known as “Pappi,” died Dec. 8, at the age of 15. Rashawn was born on June 18, 2008.
He is survived by his mother, Raquel Hodge; father, Kervin Carty; grandmothers: Octavia Brooks, Delores Miller (deceased) and Raquel Francis-Hodge (deceased); grandfathers: Joseph Fahie and Lawrence Hodge Sr. (deceased); brother, Najahiya Carty; aunts: Ruth Hodge, Laverne Hodge, Lynn Hodge, Shamonica Samuel, Rhonda Samuel, Judith Page, Vanessa Carty-Richardson, Harella Carty and Sylvia Fahie; great aunts: Caroline Connor Jean Carty and Bernice More;
He is also survived by uncles: Lawrence Hodge Jr. and Niel Miller (better known as Jahbu), Alwyn Carty, Keldris Carty, Quincy Carty and Matthew Richardson; great uncles: Peter Carty, Roy CartyJ Elton Carty and Jerry Carty; and cousins: Khadijah Durant, Rochelle Durant, Kyniqua Durant, Gertrude Samuel, Lavelle Samuel, Toyia Samuel, Lucita Samuel, Latifah Andrew, Akeya Alcindor, John Alcindor Jr., Jahkimo Alcindor, Jaylon Chumney, Jaheem Chumney, Rakeem Samuel and Rasheem Samuel.
Other survivors include cousins: La’Roe Hodge, La’Rora Hodge, La’Raena Hodge, Alexis Carty-Brin, Elisha Ortiz, Aaliyah Carty, Arianna Carty, Annalie Carty, Antony Carty, Moniqua Thomas, Makayla Hileger, Monae Thomas, Kaniel Richardson, Kirsten Richardson, Keziah Richardson, Jahmela Carty, Jahnelle Carty, Jahmari Carty, Quinesha Carty and Qumari Carty; nephew, Na’Jai Kayden Carty-Lewis; as well as many other relatives and friends to include, Shanelle Mitchell, the BCB Class of 2023 and the family on St. Kitts.
The first viewing will take place from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home.
The second viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, Anna’s Retreat, located opposite the basketball court and Police Station.
