Virgin Islands Sports Ambassador Michelle Smith, a high school senior at Montverde Academy, competed in the Florida High School Challenge Indoor Track and Field competition on Feb. 3, in Gainesville, Fla.
Smith finished 1st in the 60m hurdles setting a V.I. National U20 record and school record in a time of 8.65. She also set a V.I National U20 record while finishing 3rd in the 400m in a time of 54.15. Her 400m time places her 8th place in the USA for high school athletes.
Smith also competed in the Legends of Alachua County Meet on Jan. 27 and 28, in Gainesville, Fla., where she set a personal record in the 200m in 24.48. Won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.78 and finished 2nd in the 400m in 54.61.
Smith will compete next in the Millrose Games in New York on Feb. 10 and 11.
Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Malique Smith, started her Indoor Track and Field season at the Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic on Feb. 2 and 3, in Gainesville, Fla.
Malique finished 1st in his heat of the 200m with a time of 22.27, and he followed that with a 2nd place finish in 400m with a time of 49.74
Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Rachel Conhoff, a graduate student at Indiana State University, competed unattached at the Blue-White Classic on Feb. 3 in Terre Haute, Ind.
She competed in the mile, finishing 1st with a meet record of 5:08.02.
Conhoff will compete next in the Marian Indoor Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., on Feb. 9, 2024.
Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Nicola Peters, a high school senior at Sparkman High, competed in the AHSAA State Indoor Meet on Feb. 2 and 3, in Birmingham, Ala.
Peters finished 8th overall in the 60m in a time of 7.99 to advance to the final. In the final, she ran an 8.01 in the 60m to finish in 6th place.
Nicola also helped her team to a 7th-place finish in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:47.20.
Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Sofia Swindell, a junior at Lawrenceville School, competed in the UC High School Invitational, held on Jan. 24, 2024 in Collegeville, Penn.
Swindell placed 3rd in the 55m with a time of 7.28. She also helped her Lawrenceville High School team to a 2nd place finish in the 4x200m relay in a time of 1:46.56, which is the 11th fastest time in the state of New Jersey.
Her next meet is the Garden State Invitational on Feb. 16 in Staten Island, NY.
Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Osaze DeMund Williams, a junior at the University of New Mexico, competed at the New Mexico Team Open 2024 in Albuquerque, NM, on Jan. 26 and 27. Williams finished 8th overall in the 800m with a personal record of 1:52.19.
He will compete next in the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 9 and 10 in Albuquerque, NM.
Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Brandon Pemberton, a freshman at Barton County Community College, competed in the Washburn Rust Buster in Topeka, Kansas. on Jan. 20.
Pemberton finished 3rd in his heat in the 60m with a time of 7.08. He also finished 2nd in his heat of the 200m in a time of 22.58.
Pemberton will compete next in the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 10, 2024 in Fayetteville, Ariz.
Athletes on St. Croix competed in the 2nd SCIAA Track and Field Meet for Middle School, Junior Varsity and Varsity on Thursday, Feb. 1, and in the 2nd SCIAA Track and Field Meet for Elementary on Friday, Feb. 2, at the St. Croix Educational Complex Track facility.
