Aug. 4, 2005 – Officials of the Medical Examiner's office in Miami, Fla., went public Thursday with the description of a man who died on July 18 but whose remains have gone unclaimed.
Florida officials made their appeal on radio broadcasts in the Virgin Islands believing the dead man had ties to the territory.
Dale Hendrickson had been hospitalized at the Parkway Regional Hospital since April. Hendrickson, who was said to be living in a half way house in the Virgin Islands, died from an undisclosed illness.
Officials described Hendrickson as a black male, five foot eleven inches, 110 pounds with black hair, dark eyes and no markings or tattoos on his body. The dead man may have been homeless with no relatives or friends.
Florida authorities said that immediately after Hendrickson's death they made contact with local police but found no one at Hendrickson's latest address in the territory.
Because his remains have gone unclaimed, his body was turned over to the Allen and Shaw crematory in Opalocka, Fla., a county just outside Miami. The officials said on Thursday that the appeal to the public is an "effort to try and get relatives of Dale Hendrickson to make contact with us."
Relatives or friends who intend to claim Hendrickson's remains should contact Allen and Shaw Cremations at (305) 681-1426. The crematory is located at 13931 NW 20th Court, Opalocka, Fla.
