I read with interest your article reference the above. My wife and I were passengers on the Oceana and have since arrived home to the U.K. We, like the majority of passengers on the Oceana, were extremely disappointed at not being allowed entry to St Thomas.
The passengers had a lengthy procedure to endure clearing Immigration that morning to secure entry to the port. I must state that the Immigration officer that processed our Visa Waiver documents showed nothing but courtesy and friendliness when dealing with us.
The incident, however, brought out what I can only describe as an anti-American sentiment, which does exist in some British people mainly due to the war in Iraq and the relationship between Prime Minister Tony Blair and President George Bush. For most passengers, however, it was just pure frustration at losing the opportunity to visit your island and pre-planned shopping opportunities lost.
I am glad to read Ms. Morris' report and that you have set the record straight. I only wish that P+O cruises had been more honest at the time and had admitted blame. Perhaps in the future we will find an opportunity to visit again, hopefully to actually set foot on your beautiful shores.
