Dec. 13, 2006 A 20-year-old man with a history of mental illness was shot to death near the intersection at the stop light by the National Guard Armory in Estate Nazareth Tuesday night.
Dorian Blake's body was found near the VITRAN bus stop sign at the intersection a little after 7 p.m. Police authorities said at the scene that citizens in the area had called police after hearing four shots ring out moments before.
Blake, whose mother tried in vain for some time to get him treatment for his mental illness and violent behavior, was dressed in a black-and-white shirt, dark jeans and boots when police came upon the body.
Some persons at the scene said that Blake had become involved in a fight with a group of school children near the same bus stop a couple of mornings ago.
Police did not say whether that has been factored into the ongoing investigation.
Blake's untreated mental illness had led to his being arrested several times, most recently in April when he attempted to burn down his mother's house in Estate Nazareth. Blake's trouble with the law dates back to 2004.
Police did not name any suspects in Blake's murder on Tuesday night nor did they establish a motive. An appeal for assistance did go out to the public, anyone with information should contact the Crime Hotline at 777-8711 or emergency 911.
