July 7, 2006 – Carol Henneman, former Port Authority spokeswoman and a current professor at the University of the Virgin Islands, has been selected as the V.I. Board of Education's new executive director.
According to a recent release from the board, Henneman begins working with the board Monday. She will replace former executive director Tregenza Roach, who resigned in February.
"We're very excited about Henneman coming on board," Judy Gomez, the board's chairwoman, said in the release. Gomez also said board members are "confident" Henneman would help the organization continue to meet various local and federal mandates – including guidelines set by the No Child Left Behind Act and the compliance agreement between the V.I. and U.S. Education departments.
Gomez added that Henneman – who has been involved in education for the past 30 years – was an "ideal choice for the position."
