Aug. 8, 2007 — An 18-year-old man being held on first-degree robbery and other charges escaped Wednesday morning while en route to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility on St. Croix, according to acting Attorney General Charlotte Poole-Davis.
Yokaury Torres, a Santo Domingo native, escaped from Bureau of Correction officials at approximately 10:20 a.m. Torres weighs 135 pounds, stands 5 feet 5 inches tall, has short black hair and brown eyes with light brown complexion, according to a Government House news release.
Torres was arrested July 21 on charges of negligent driving, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident and driving a vehicle without a valid drivers license and insurance while out on bail on the robbery charge, the release said. Officials with the V.I. Police Department and Bureau of Corrections are searching the areas surrounding Golden Grove and Estate Bethlehem. Torres is a resident of Catherine Rest and is known to frequent that area.
Residents are urged to be on lookout for anyone fitting this description and wearing a red Bureau of Corrections uniform with white undershirt to call the V.I. Police Department at 911 or Bureau of Corrections at 778- 0400.
