An Original King of Comedy Broadcasting from St. Thomas

July 1, 2008 — His radio talk show reaches 6.5 million listeners in 61 different cities, and this week comedian Steve Harvey is telling everyone the "Virgin Islands is the most beautiful place" he's "ever been in his life."
The comedian and his morning-show team touched down in the territory Sunday, and will broadcast live for another two days as part of an advertising campaign designed by the Department of Tourism to showcase the Virgin Islands to potential visitors in "key markets," which includes cities such as Atlanta, New York and Miami.
"We were invited by the Department of Tourism, and wanted to come because we figured a lot of people need to know about the Caribbean's best-kept secret," Harvey said Tuesday, after he broadcast live from the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort on St. Thomas. "In terms of destinations, when people are traveling, it may be that they pick places like the Bahamas first. We want to let them know that the Virgin Islands is something worth looking into."
Dressed in a white button-down shirt and blue linen pants with flip-flops, Harvey also talked about the territory's "beautiful views," sandy beaches and friendly residents.
"We also personally came here to relax, possibly do some fishing and sailing," he added. "I'm looking forward to visiting some of the historical sites I've been hearing so much about."
Harvey's show airs in nine of the territory's top markets, Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty said in a recent news release.
"This current promotion will offer valuable exposure for all three islands, and allows us to directly connect with our consumers, highlighting the best of the U.S. Virgin Islands," she said.
Harvey's show will also air from July 14 through August 2, and will promote the department's Sizzlin' Summer Sampler vacation package, according to the release. Listeners to the show have also won trips to St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix through on-air sweepstakes, the release said.
