Fire and Education were both winners as they defeated the Rebels and the Injectables respectively Thursday night in the Governmental and Industrial Softball league at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark.
Fire 17, Rebels 4
In game one, the Fire Department came out red hot as they burned the defending champions Rebels17-4 behind a balanced attack by its offense and a six-hit pitching effort from ace Paul Christian. It was Fire with 17 runs on 10 hits and one error while the Rebels finished with four runs on six hits and committed three errors. Christian dominated on the mound to pick up the victory, while Leon Cruz got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Arthur Canaii, (2 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs) and Jesus Saldana (2 for 3 with two RBIs). For the Rebels, David Clarke Jr. was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Sylvester Blake was 1 for 3 with one RBI.
Education 10, Injectables 9
In Thursday’s nightcap, the Education Department edged the Juan Luis Hospital Injectables 10-9, as four errors by the health care club proved to be their undoing in the close loss. Education plated 10 runs on eight hits and one error, while the blunted Injectables finished with nine runs on seven hits and four errors. Gareth Knight got the win on the Hill for Education while Julio Perez got the loss. Education was led offensively by Jeremy Newton (2 for 4 with an RBI and Jose Ferera (2 for 4). For the Injectables, Guido Schjang was 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs, Rashaun Foster 2 for 4 with an RBI and Kenny Milligan was 2 for 3.
