St. George Village Botanical Garden presents an opportunity for the public to learn about the rich history of the property at Estate St. George from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10. Enjoy the music of Bully and the Kafooners, experience the movement and rhythm of the Bamboula courtesy of the artists of Per Ankh, and hear a dramatization of the real stories of seven enslaved Africans, who were either born, lived, worked or died on the sugarcane plantation. There will be local music, donkey cart rides, traditional foods and craft demonstrations. Entrance fees are $5 for adults, $2 for children
Frances Christiansen was a woman who was born and lived in the village at Estate St. George in the early part of the 20th century. Her granddaughter will share accounts from her grandmother’s personal memoirs about life on the site. There will be demonstrations about the history of the fascinating people/plant interactions such as basket weaving, creating plant fibers, calabash shell art and the heritage of using plants for medicinal purposes (from a fifth generation bush doctor).
