Training on Applied Behavior Analysis home-based therapy will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day, Oct. 25-28, at the Cardiac Center on St. Croix. Training will be held from 8 a.m. to noon each day, Nov. 1-4 at the Sugar Estate Head Start Conference Center on St. Thomas.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), also known as behavioral intervention or behavioral treatment, utilizes methods based on scientific principles of behavior to bring about comprehensive and enduring improvements in a wide range of skills for most children with autism, ADD/ADHD and late-talking children, as part of home or school-based therapy.
Parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, non-verbal communication and early childhood educators’ pediatric service providers are invited to attend. The trainer is board certified ABA therapist Dr. Julie Knapp, Ph.D., BCBA-D. The trainings are free for parents with a child who has an individualized education plan, an individualized family service plan or a diagnosed disability of autism or developmental delay. Professionals must pay $160 for training.
The trainings are a project of the office of The Office of the Governor — ADA Office, the Governor’s Children and Families Council, the Developmental Disabilities Council and the V.I. Department of Human Services. They are co-sponsored by the V.I. Psychological Association.
