July 15, 2002 – Tutu Park Mall invites artists from around the territory to express themselves at this year’s Summer Art Fest, scheduled for Saturday, July 20 in the mall's center court.
Sculptors, painters, dancers, musicians, wood crafters, ceramic creators and graffiti stylists are invited to be a part of the eclectic group that will be known as this year’s Summer Art Fest. Other sorts of artists who wish not to be categorized but who have a desire to share talents with others, are also invited.
The Art Fest is designed to give local artist an accessible platform to facilitate self-expression. There is no fee to participate in this event. In addition, Tutu Park Mall will help with the set-up of tables, chairs or display boards while supplies last.
The event is also geared at broadening the horizons of the public’s perception of "art." The mall is one of the few places where people of different social backgrounds congregate; thus, it is a most appropriate place for such a cultural event to happen.
Pamela Morales, the mall's marketing director, also credits the property’s design for adding to the accessibility of this event for both artists and the public.
"For a day-long event like this one, you have to make sure that participants are comfortable and that the environment protects art displays from heat or sunlight damage," Morales said. "I couldn’t think of a better place to have the Summer Art Fest but a central air-conditioned location like Tutu Park Mall."
Artists interested in participating should either stop by the mall management office next to Pearle Vision or call 775-4658 to have an application faxed.
