July 16, 2002 – Shoppers get a day-early opportunity this weekend to take in the "Christmas in July" sale at the Humane Society of St. Thomas animal shelter compound in Nadir. Normally the flea market operates only on Sundays, but the doors will be open this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Society board member Jane Kupperman said the items on sale include more than a hundred pieces of costume and vintage jewelry, none of which has been offered before. There are some marvelous and perhaps one-of-a-kind pieces, she said.
And, in keeping with the sale's name, there will be lots of Christmas ornaments, lights, toys and other holiday items, too.
This is one of two times a year that the organization holds Saturday sales. The flea market will be open for its regular Sunday hours this weekend, too, from 2 to 4 p.m. The market is operated by volunteers, and proceeds benefit the local Humane Society shelter operations.
