DELEGATE IN V.I. FOR RECESS, SETS TOWN MEETINGS

Aug. 7, 2003 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen returned to the territory on Wednesday for the August Congressional recess after speaking at national conventions over the weekend in New Orleans and Philadelphia.
The Delegate will host a series of town hall meetings on homeland security and meet with district constituents during the recess work period, a release said.
The first town hall meeting will be held on St. Thomas at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Caribbean conference room of the Windward Passage Holiday Inn Hotel. A St. Croix town meeting will be held at the St. Croix Curriculum Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Before returning to the islands, the Delegate last week addressed the National Council on Disability on the empowerment of people with disabilities from diverse cultures. She also spoke to the National Urban League on the state of emergency that affects black families across the world with regards to HIV/AIDS.
On Aug. 2 the Delegate spoke before the National Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics in New Orleans, discussing health empowerment. She also addressed the National Black Nurses Association and the National Medical Association at a series of health related forums, and was keynote speaker at the NMA's Ophthalmologists' Dinner.
