HARMONY DEM OPENING NEW SEASON AT TICKLES

Aug. 18, 2003 – Summer's still got a while to go, but "season" is starting up for one of St. Thomas's enduring musical entertainment groups.
Harmony Dem "will start its fall season this Friday night at a new venue, Tickles at Crown Bay," a release states.
The group in its current incarnation has four members — founders Fred and Polly Watts and Donnie Edwards, plus relative newcomer Grizz Skeels. Singing to the accompaniment of autoharp, guitar, bass, triangle and spoons, the musicians specialize in traditional folksongs, from Appalachian and Cajun to African and Caribbean.
They'll be singing and playing from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Crown Bay Marina restaurant. "We hope you can make it and catch some of our own excitement about playing together after a three-month summer hiatus," the release states.
And they'll have copies of their long-planned and finally pressed CD, "Harmony Dem — Before We Forget the Words," available for purchase.
In addition to traditional favorites, the album includes three original tunes — two with personal dedications by Edwards and a tribute by Fred Watts to the late, lamented Barnacle Bill's that's worth the price of the platter alone, according to some fans.
