EDUCATION CHIEF OFFERS WELCOME AS NEW SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS
Aug. 22, 2003 — Education Commissioner Dr. Noreen Michael Friday issued this statement to all new and returning Education school-based personnel and students across the territory:
"I am pleased to welcome you all to school year 2003-2004! I trust that each of you had an enjoyable summer and is now ready to take on a year filled with wonderful learning experiences and challenges.
As you get underway, I pledge my support toward making this the best school year for you that I possibly can. The education of our students is important to me and to this community. Therefore, the needs of our educators and students are also my needs and the needs of this community. If there is anything that you need, or perhaps you have a suggestion that can assist the Department in providing the best service to our school family, I am willing to listen.
Students, in order to assist you we need you to make a commitment to doing your very best. As the school year starts you will have the opportunity to reacquaint yourselves with classmates and instructors; and you will meet new friends and teachers. We want the best for you and that will require some work on your part, which includes studying daily; reading all that you can and keeping abreast of local and world news via daily periodicals, television and the internet; and most importantly, asking for assistance when you are experiencing problems.
Educators, both returning and new, I congratulate you on your continued efforts to make a difference in the lives of our students and the communities in which you have served and now reside. On behalf of the Education Leadership Team and staff, I wish you the very best during this new school year. May God bless each and every one of you."
