VIPD ISSUES CHRISTMAS TIPS FOR SAFER SEASON

The following safety tips have been issued by the Virgin Islands Police Department to help ensure a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
* Lock all doors when leaving home, leave on a light, radio or some device to indicate you are home.
* Separate keys on a key chain so that you won't lose all of them if they are lost.
* Do not leave packages in the back seat of your vehicle: put them in the trunk. SUV owners should use the covering materials supplied in your vehicle to protect your packages.
* Do not flash large sums of cash; separate your money.
* Be aware of your surroundings. When in large crowds, men should keep their money and wallets in front pockets. Women should hold their shoulder bag firmly in hand or under their arm. Do not use purses or handbags with long straps.
* Lock your vehicle before leaving it; re-check the doors manually if you have an electric key lock.
* At night, try to park in a well-lit area.
* When shopping in the evening, go with a companion or friend.
* Do not leave your keys in the ignition of your vehicle if you are not in it.
* Do not place your handbags, purse, etc., in a shopping cart unattended.
* When taking your children out for holiday activities, ensure that they have identification with them at all times, including an emergency telephone number in case of separation.
* Don't drink and drive.
* Remember to always use common sense.
