July 30, 2004 – WTJX-TV on Wednesday night will broadcast a live recording of Pistarckle Theater's summer student production "Wonderland!"
The hour-long musical is a contemporary take on Lewis Carroll's famed fairy tale "Through the Looking Glass." The production was the culmination of Pistarckle's four-week summer theater camp on St. Thomas for young people ages 8-13.
The youngsters gave four performances on the Pistarckle stage in Tillett Gardens in early July.
"Wonderland!" features 29 youngsters singing, dancing and acting. It's "an unabashedly silly adaption" of the classic tale of Alice and her adventures with the White Rabbit, the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat and more, with music from gypsy and doo-wop to bluegrass and hip-hop, according to Pistarckle publicity.
Populating the coming-of-age story along with the Carroll characters are dozens of new ones, including a baseball team, a gospel group, a train conductor, star-struck tourists and light-saber wielding knights.
WTJX will air the program at 9 p.m. Wednesday on Channel 12 and DT 44.
