@Work: Inner Self Lingerie Boutique

August 25, 2005 – The bright colors of fuchsia, baby blue, lavender and yellow greet you as you open the door to this specialty store. Shimmery, silky and sheer fabrics tempt you to reach out and touch. The racks lining the walls of the Inner Self Lingerie Boutique are filled with rows of intimate apparel designed to make a woman feel like a woman.
"It's for you. You wear them to make yourself feel good," proprietor Pauline Sheridan said. "Many women come in and say, 'I don't have a boyfriend or a husband to wear these for.' I say do it for yourself so you can feel sexy underneath."
Sheridan opened the unique boutique four month ago in the Frederiksted Mall on Kings Street.
"A lot of people don't think about Frederiksted when they want to shop for elegant items," Sheridan said, but she believes in the town. "Frederiksted will do good," she said.
"When the waterfront revitalization project finishes, things are going to work out." In the meantime, Sheridan's store delights the senses and stirs the imagination of her local clientele.
This upscale boutique, with its fashionable, elegant and sophisticated styles can hold its own with any of the major on-line or stateside mall intimate apparel stores. With fashion names like Lilyette, Va Bien, Shirley of Hollywood and Maidenform, Inner Self is clearly geared toward women with discriminating tastes.
If you are in need of a lace bustier, a stretchy lace boys' short and cami set, lounge wear, baby dolls, chemise sets, sleep wear, something frilly, fancy, feathery or so sheer it's almost not there, Inner Self Lingerie Boutique is the place to be. The store also carries a wide array of body shapers designed for support, comfort and beauty. Sizes range from small to plus and voluptuous. And, the prices are reasonable.
The men are not left out. They can choose from an array of silky sheer kimono and pant sets, fitted boxers and thongs. Ladies, this is the place to go to find that special something for your loved one.
This venture is not the first foray into entrepreneurship for Sheridan; she has been the owner of several businesses, including a hair supply store and a restaurant. Even if things don't turn out just right, Sheridan has a positive outlook. "If you put your money into something, at least you tried," she said. "I just take it as it comes, you don't always win."
Sheridan credits her success to a supportive husband and family. She has five children, some on St. Croix, some pursuing careers in the States.
So the next time you are in Frederiksted, stop by the Inner Self Lingerie Boutique and pick up a little something to turn a boring night at home into one of indulgence and passion. Or just slip into some loungewear, slide onto a chaise chair and indulge in chocolate covered cherries bon-bons. You deserve it!
