Reader Praises Ruth Moolenar

Dear Source:
Thank you for sharing the stories of so many of our community's stalwarts and tradition bearers, both the young and seasoned citizens. I was particularly pleased with the story of Mrs. Moolenar, one of Gov. Farrelly's "honcho's," who still today remains a strong role model for so many of us. The story of Mrs. Moolenar highlights that education, determination and support from family and friends can take us a long way.
Mrs. Moolenar proved that if you were determined to get an education you could do it, even in the 50's and 60's with young children and without the benefit of computers and the Internet. She knew and will tell you today that getting an education is critical to making a way in the world. So, if it could be done in the 50's and 60's, there is no reason why more of our youngsters, even those who start their families at a young age, are not getting an education today. Surely not today with the modern conveniences of computers and the Internet.
Mrs. Moolenar has and continues to teach me a great deal about Virgin Islands history, including about my husband. I will always be grateful for her friendship and wealth of information.
