deChabert Family Donates $10,000 to UVI

March 7, 2006 – The deChabert family will present a donation of $10,000 to the University of the Virgin Islands at noon, on Tuesday, March 7, in front of the library on the St. Croix campus. Dr. Ralph deChabert, family representative, will also donate 18 books from his personal collection to the St. Croix campus library, according to a press release from the office of Laverne E. Ragster, president of UVI.
Dr. deChabert initiated the Ralph deChabert Collection at the UVI St. Croix campus library with a $20,000 gift in 1996. The collection, by St. Croix author Richard Schrader, comprises a number of works unique to the Virgin Islands — particularly the island of St. Croix.
For several decades, the deChabert family has owned the Sunny Isle Shopping Center. Over the years they have donated more than $84,000 to the university in support of scholarships and the collection.
For further information, contact Mitchell Neaves, UVI's director of annual giving, at 693-1046.
