Airport Parking Rates to Double Beginning Saturday

June 29, 2006 – Motorists who park at Cyril E. King Airport this Saturday will be in for a surprise when they exit the lot. That's because rates will be double what they have been for the last 15 years — since the new airport was completed.
V.I. Port Authority board members, who approved the increase at a board meeting in March, said at the time the new fee schedule was "long overdue" and would bring in some much-needed revenue for the authority (See "Parking Fees to Double at Cyril E. King Airport").
To remind the public of the new rates, VIPA issued a release Thursday.
The new rates are as follows:
General public rates
–$2 for 16 minutes to one hour of parking;
–$4 for one- to two-hour parking;
–$6 for two- to three-hour parking;
–$8 for three to four hours;
–$10 for more than four hours of parking (daily maximum);
–$10 for a lost parking ticket.
Employee and other rates
–$50 per month for airport-based employees;
–$2 a day for airport-based employees;
–$150 per month for delivery companies, tour operators, limousines and other businesses; and
–$150 a month for general users.
The release said monthly rates for employees have been the same since 1992, but the daily employee rate was reduced in 1998.
